Dear Fellow Members,
The countdown to summer has begun!  Kids and adults alike are looking forward to some fun and relaxation poolside in 2019.  The pool will officially open on Saturday, May 25th at 11:00.  We have some exciting new changes to the pool staff and facilities to share with you.
In regard to our much anticipated pool renovation project, we have almost completed the first stage, which was a refresh and renovation of our locker rooms and lobby area.  You’ll notice we have new flooring, paint, stall partitions and carpeting to give the locker rooms a bright and fresh feel.  We expect to complete the second and third stages (the larger stages of the project), throughout the off-season in 2019-20 and 2020-21.  We have staged the project in such a way that we can address the full scope of the renovation while keeping the pool open during the summer for our membership to enjoy.
We’d like to extend a warm welcome to our new Pool Director, Alex Vincent.  Many of you may recognize Alex as the head of the SJJCC Barracudas Swim Team and the Masters Swim Program through Long Island Express.  He is also a former Head Swim Coach and Assistant Aquatics Director at Plandome CC.  Alex is a great addition to our club and looks forward to putting together a stellar lifeguard staff while continuing to develop our wonderful swim programs.  Assistant Pool Director Mike Spina will be back on board to assist Alex as he transitions into his new role.
We look forward to having John Gaffney, Molly McLoughlin and Dan Jacobs back at the helm of the swim team for what, we hope, will be a repeat Swim Championship performance in 2019!  Our first meet will be The Relay Carnival on June 22nd at Hempstead CC.  Weekly meets will follow on Saturday mornings culminating with the swim trials on August 1st and the Long Island Swim League Championship on August 3rd.  North Hempstead will be serving as host for both of these exciting events this summer.  Please save the date for the Swim Team Awards Dinner, which is traditionally held in the evening following the Championship on August 3rd.   This is a well-attended, fun event for all of our swim team members and their families to celebrate their hard work in the pool throughout the summer.
We will hold a Swim Team suit fitting on Tuesday, May 14th from 6:00-7:30. We will have a try-on suit kit available for swimmers (to be fitted by their parents) before orders are placed through Agon via online link.   New this year, we will not be placing orders through a vendor in person during the fitting time.   We plan to offer Swim Team apparel including sweatshirts, pants, shorts and hats through Arena Graphics.  That online store will go live shortly.  We hope to simplify the ordering process by transitioning it online so orders can be placed quickly and more efficiently!  Our coaches will be hosting a parent information session regarding swim team policies and procedures before the first swim practice scheduled for June 13th.
This year we will continue with our Junior Swim Team program as a way for our newest swimmers to make the transition to the Swim Team with an abbreviated practice and more support from the coaches. We hope for all of our swimmers to get race practice, try new strokes and prepare for the opportunity to swim in a meet or in the Junior Championships to be hosted by North Hills on August 2nd. If your child is new to the swim team, the coaches ask that you attend a swim team test on June 12th at 4:00.  This will give coaches the opportunity to see how your child swims and determine the appropriate placement for them within the team.
We will continue to offer 30-minute private swimming lessons given by our guards and coaches. Each week, a schedule will be posted at the front desk listing guard availability, allowing parents to schedule a time that is suitable for them in advance.
As a gentle reminder of our rules, speaking on cell phones is limited the locker rooms, parking lot and “adult section” at the pool.  However, texting is permitted.  We also remind members to please sign all guests in at the front desk.  It is the member’s responsibility to ensure that their guests are properly attired and follow all pool regulations.  For your convenience, towel service and pool lockers will continue to be provided as they have in years past.  We ask that each family member use one towel and return it to the bins at the front desk at the end of the day.
On behalf of Dan Rogers, Alex Vincent, the Pool Committee and the pool staff, we look forward to seeing you all on the pool deck this summer.  Please reach out to Dan, Alex or myself with any questions or suggestions regarding your pool experience.  I can be reached at
